Incentivizing Safety One Tip at a Time

Incentivizing Safety One Tip at a Time

Here at MMC Land Management, safety has always been our number one priority companywide. We utilize multiple tactics in order to reiterate the importance of safety to our people. A prime example is our monthly safety committee meetings. Employees of any level are eligible to become a member and serve as the voice that represents their peers by participating in our discussions of injuries and best practices in the field. Director of Maintenance Jim Salva says “I really enjoy hearing safety committee members new ideas and lessons that they have learned while working with other team members on job sites. There are always great takeaways from the meetings, and seeing better safety practices implemented because of them is very rewarding”. Besides these meetings, we ensure to hold interactive trainings and weekly garage meetings, as well as job site visits.

Another tactic we have decided to add to our list is the new safety incentive program, Safety T.I.P.S. (tactics in promoting safety). This program was curated by our marketing intern, Alli Hoerner. The system encourages employees to practice safety measures in exchange for a safety tip when recognized by a member of upper management. The program includes rewards based on safety practices completed within either the $1 or $5 denomination. Not only will team members be verbally recognized for their safety efforts out in the field, but they will also receive a physical copy of a safety tip. What do they do with these tips you ask? Employees are able to redeem these tips in a couple of ways. They may choose to get an Amazon eGift Card, or they may use their balance to receive a discount on MMC Land Management merchandise from our online company store.

At MMC Land Management, our “why” is to be a workplace that cultivates excellence in our People, Customers, and Community. The first step towards achieving this “why” is taking safety seriously. We have been keeping a record of which branch location holds the longest streak with no injuries. Our Robinson branch has been leading the way for quite some time as they have gone 234 consecutive weeks without an injury! Our goal is that all of our branches may reach this milestone at some point in time, as we continuously are introducing new efforts to foster a safe environment for every MMC employee.
