Nightly Mower Maintenance Routine

Nightly Mower Maintenance Routine

Our landscape maintenance division is by far our largest division at MMC Land Management and is responsible for keeping up with the mowing at each of our respective properties. Our people are out mowing daily for the entirety of the spring and summer seasons spanning from April to September. With over 300 properties, you can imagine how many acres we maintain!

In order to keep our operation running smoothly, we are constantly performing maintenance on all of our equipment so our team members can perform only the highest quality of work in a safe manner. By constantly doing this routine on a nightly basis, some of our mowers have lasted us over 3000 hours.

Jeff Seybert started at MMC as a mechanic 3 months ago with plenty of experience from previously working as an operator in the street department of the West Mayfield borough for six years. He talks us through every step that team members take to ensure our mowers are in good health for the upcoming day.

1.      Perform a visual check of the entire mower. Look for any loose parts or anything unusual.

2.      The blades are sharpened every night to ensure a clean cut every time.

3.      Cleaning the deck maintains a clean professional look while keeping it clear of debris and lessening the chance of injury.

4.      Cleaning the air filter is crucial for the correct ventilation and preventing the mower from overheating.

5.      Ensure the tires have no holes and treads are not worn down. A great trick for this is to use a penny to check the tread. If you put the penny in the tread, the head of Lincoln should be covered or at least level. If it is exposed, the tires must be changed.

6.      Greasing the mower nightly is important to prevent wear so that the bearings don’t harden up.

7.      The oil must be changed every 3 months for optimum performance.

8.      At the same time as the oil is checked, the hydraulic fluid should also be looked at. When it changes color from its original clear color to a darker shade, you know it is time to change it.
